What documents are required to set up a company in Hong Kong?

Passports, proof of address, choice of name, HKCPA documents, and proof of activity: the documents to prepare.

You are about to set up a company in Hong Kong, and you still need to gather the necessary documents to finalize your application and submit it to the relevant authorities.

It is important to clearly distinguish the supporting documents required to register the company from those subsequently requested for opening the bank account.

The goal is to prepare a complete application from the outset in order to avoid delays or requests for additional information.

Company formation in Hong Kong

Partners' and directors' passports

A copy of the passports of the company's partners and directors must be provided for registration.

Proof of address dated within the last 3 months

A copy of a proof of address dated within the last 3 months must be provided for shareholders and directors: a gas, telephone, water, or electricity bill.

Company name

You must also specify your company name. You can choose it from a list of ready-made companies or suggest 2 or 3 names in order of preference. Availability will then be checked.

What documents are required to open a bank account?

Traditional bank in Hong Kong

Original company documents certified by HKCPA.

Copies of the directors' and partners' passports.

Proof of address issued within the last 3 months for the directors and partners.

Proof of business activity: paid invoices, signed contracts, and bank statements from the last 6 months related to business activity in Hong Kong or China.

Fintech

Scanned company documents.

Copies of the passports of the company’s directors and shareholders.

A copy of proof of address dated less than 3 months ago for the company’s directors and shareholders: electricity, water, gas, or telephone bill, etc.

For a fintech, the list of documents to gather is therefore slightly different from that of a traditional bank.
