Whether to occupy your free time or generate additional income, here is what you need to know about part-time jobs in the Emirates.
NB: this law applies to all employees of private companies located in the mainland and in some free zones.
The Law Regarding Part-Time Employment Contracts in Dubai
Part-time work permits are not a new topic in the Emirates. In fact, since 2010, labor law has allowed an employee to combine part-time work with full-time work, subject to certain conditions.
An employee may therefore work part-time provided they have obtained a work permit from the MOHRE.
Attention: if an expatriate is caught working for another company without a work permit from the MOHRE, they will be fined AED 50,000, in addition to other penalties in cases of repeat offenses. Federal Decree-Law No. 2 of 2007 sets out the penalties relating to this type of practice.
It is not possible to apply for this type of permit if you are on a tourist visa!
What Does Part-Time Employment in Dubai Mean?
Part-time work in Dubai is the practice of working fewer hours than in a full-time job. It is most often used as a way for employees to maintain some flexibility in their schedules or supplement their income. Part-time work can be beneficial for those seeking an alternative to full-time employment, such as students, stay-at-home parents, retirees, or anyone unable to commit to a full-time job. Part-time jobs provide an opportunity to gain experience and skills that could be useful for future employment opportunities. In addition, employers often offer part-time positions with flexible schedules, allowing employees to maintain a work-life balance while earning an income. Part-time work is also an ideal way for those who wish to explore different fields and become familiar with various industries. Ultimately, part-time work in Dubai offers many people an excellent opportunity to earn money while remaining flexible and honoring their personal commitments.What Are the Conditions for Working Part-Time in the Emirates?
Part-time work in the United Arab Emirates is governed by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) or by labor law. The temporary or part-time work permit is intended for employees who have obtained an employment contract lasting six (6) months or less. The employer can apply online or through Tasheel centers. To apply, the following conditions must be met:- Be 18 years old at the time of application;
- Be a resident of the United Arab Emirates;
- May be employed or unemployed at the time of application.
What Documents Are Required to Obtain This Work Permit?

- Copy of the employment contract;
- Color photograph of the employee with a white background;
- Copy of the employee's visa valid for at least 6 months;
- An NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the current employer (if applicable);
