The Situation of Women in the Emirates
The United Arab Emirates continues to improve the situation of women and their families, and a new law has been adopted for this purpose.
This news is a relief for Emirati mothers married to foreigners. The decision comes as the government strengthens
"support for and stability of the families of Emirati mothers."
The new president of the United Arab Emirates,
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, issued a new directive on June 30, 2022, granting children of Emirati mothers living in the United Arab Emirates the same education and healthcare benefits as children of two Emirati parents.
Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs of the Emirates, was tasked with implementing this new directive.
Equal Healthcare and Education Benefits
In the United Arab Emirates, children born to an Emirati mother and a foreign father can apply for Emirati citizenship, but it is not automatic. In fact, in the Emirates, a child automatically obtains their father's nationality. By contrast, children born to a local man and a foreign woman receive citizenship at birth.
This type of situation is similar in many Middle Eastern countries, where efforts to expand citizenship rights encounter a certain degree of resistance. The Emirates, as usual, are pioneers in every field and deploy resources to meet the needs of the entire community.
