Since Monday, September 5, 2022, UAE residents have had the opportunity to apply for a new type of visa called the residence visa for working remotely from Dubai.

This new lifestyle gives them complete autonomy and flexibility, as they are free to choose their own work schedule. This wave of digital nomads developed particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Becoming an expatriate for a year or more has never been so simple.
Through this new residence program, the UAE, and particularly the Emirate of Dubai, is making itself a luxury destination for remote work for digital nomads.
The UAE offers the best infrastructure for remote workers to benefit from their virtual work program. In addition to access to all services, connectivity and telecommunications systems, coworking spaces, and security, they provide an ideal setting for remote workers.

Which visa allows you to live in Dubai while working remotely?
Recently, Dubai launched the remote residency permit. It is now possible to apply for a residence permit to work remotely from Dubai.
First announced in March 2021, these new types of permits were scheduled for September 2022. This residence visa is intended exclusively for people who wish to live and work in the UAE for a company that does not operate in Dubai.
It is valid for one year and can be renewed for an additional year. It allows holders to enter the country from abroad as their own sponsor and to work in accordance with the required terms and conditions.
One-year visa: requirements for obtaining the remote work visa and working remotely from Dubai
To apply for this remote work residence permit, certain requirements must be met. We have compiled them for you.

The first requirement is, of course, that the employee must be able to provide proof of employment, which may be an employment contract or hiring contract valid for one year from an employer in their current country of residence. This contract will prove that they do in fact work remotely for a company located outside the UAE and receive a monthly income.
The second requirement concerns salary: an average monthly income of USD 5,000 is mandatory (equivalent to approximately AED18 250). The applicant must be able to provide a salary certificate for the previous months as well as bank statements for the last three months.
If the applicant is also the owner of the company, they must provide proof of ownership of the company, such as a registration certificate. They must also demonstrate a minimum income of USD 5,000 per month and provide bank statements for the company account for the last three months.
Another requirement is that the applicant’s passport must be valid for at least six (6) months, and they must also take out health insurance covering medical expenses in Dubai.
This type of permit allows the holder to sponsor family members in the same way as with a standard UAE residence permit. The only difference is that the duration of the family members’ residence permits is linked to that of the sponsor.
The application fee in Dubai is $287 (AED 1 050), which includes all fees. Paying this fee does not guarantee that you will receive the coveted permit.
All applications will be reviewed and processed by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai.
If your application is approved, you will receive an entry permit for the UAE. Once there, you will have sixty (60) days to undergo the medical examination and provide fingerprints. The process is identical to that for standard work visas.
This permit allows you to rent property, open a bank account, enroll your children in school, obtain an identity card, and more.
